MTN Safety Council Meeting minutes 08/26/2024: 

Sportsman Grille – Brentwood, TN 

Marty Pollack called the meeting to order at 11:30am.

Speaker: THP – Sergeant Alexander Carrick 

Topic: THP Activities 

• 106 commissioned officers from Memphis to Bristol
  • Focused on commercial highway safety
• Interstate ramps in Green County are equipped with a tire anomaly system that are proving to be 99%+ accurate in flat detection. Overtime, these will be installed at all scale houses across the state of TN.
  •  Inspection Tip: if a driver receives an OOS for a flat tire and the officer allows them to fill the tire over 70% PSI or higher, the driver must sign the “repair” line to indicate the repair and being released by the officer. 
  • If the tire is at least at 50% PSI of that tire or higher, it’s no longer OOS, but still a violation. 
• Increased roadside commercial enforcement during brake safety week. 
• Chameleon carriers 
  • Smaller companies, 1 man shows, or small carrier companies, are writing down DOT #’s/company names while at truck stops and creating magnets or decals for their units and operating under “your” DOT number (TX and FL are the worst states dealing with this).
