The meeting began with an introduction by Trooper Toni Jenkins, who has nearly 9 years of experience with the Highway Patrol and a unique perspective due to her family's involvement in the trucking industry. The primary goal discussed was the enhancement of knowledge and protection of the motoring public, emphasizing the importance of roadway safety in Tennessee. Key statistics were shared, including that Tennessee has over 95,000 miles of public roadways, with 715 fatalities recorded in 2024 as of August 19, and 103 of these involved commercial vehicles.
The meeting highlighted the importance of regular safety meetings, driver accountability, and ongoing education to reduce fatalities and improve vehicle maintenance. Specific vehicle violations such as cracked wheels, leaking hubs, and worn tires were identified as critical issues that need addressing to ensure safety. The session concluded with a summary underscoring the necessity of prioritizing roadway safety to prevent crashes, save lives, and support the smooth operation of commercial vehicles.
The venue was very conducive to the meeting and those in attendance seemed receptive to future meetings at Chattanooga State.
The motion to close the meeting was made by Monte King and seconded by an attendee.
Respectfully submitted,
